Health

In accordance with local regulations, nurses accredited by the local authorities work on site and are part of the school team. Together with the school doctor, they organise a medical check-up for all new pupils every year.

At the time of enrolment, parents must complete the medical information form and provide a photocopy of their child’s vaccination record, in a sealed envelope.

The school clinic rules will be handed out at the start of the school year.

Visits to the School Clinic

Nursery (Maternelle)

Any nursery pupil who needs to go to the clinic is always accompanied there and back by an adult.

If the nurse decides that the pupil needs to go home, she will call the parents to come and collect them. The clinic will inform the primary vie scolaire (pupil welfare office).

Elementary

Any pupil from Year 1 to Year 5 (CP to CM2) who needs to go to the clinic must ask the teacher. For safety reasons, they will be accompanied by a classmate and will go to the vie scolaire to collect the document entitled Passage Infirmerie (clinic visit slip). This document records the time of the visit, the reason for it and the first aid given.

If the school doctor or the nurses decide that the pupil needs to go home, the parents will be called. The vie scolaire will be informed of the pupil’s departure, and will in turn inform the relevant departments (Arabic and religious education teachers, buses, activities).

Secondary (Collège/Lycée)

Pupils who need to go to the clinic must first go to the secondary vie scolaire office. The vie scolaire will give the pupil a slip entitled Passage Infirmerie. The medical team will record on this slip the reason for the visit and the time.

If the nurse decides that the pupil needs to go home, she will call the parents to come and collect them. The clinic will inform the secondary vie scolaire.

Health & Hygiene

Out of respect for everyone, parents are asked to make sure that basic hygiene rules are followed.

Where a child has specific medical needs, parents are invited to meet the school doctor or the nurses to draw up an individual care plan (PAI).

In an emergency, if the parents cannot be reached, the pupil will be taken to the designated referral hospital, RASHID HOSPITAL. Please be sure to inform the clinic of any change to your telephone numbers.

Pupils who need to take medication must hand it in to the clinic together with the prescription. It will be given to the pupil under the supervision of the medical team.

Any accident during a school activity or on school premises must be reported, after a visit to the clinic, to the Head of School or their team and to the vie scolaire for secondary pupils; and to the directors and the primary vie scolaire for nursery and elementary classes.

Sick pupils

If your child shows symptoms such as fever, vomiting or diarrhoea in the morning, they should not be sent to school.

In the case of a contagious illness, parents must provide a medical certificate of recovery on the day the pupil returns: to the primary vie scolaire for nursery and elementary pupils, and to the CPE (senior pupil welfare officer) and the nurses for secondary pupils.

A pupil with a fever will not be allowed to use the bus. Parents will need to collect their child from the clinic.

Chronic illness

Pupils with a chronic illness requiring medication during school hours must make themselves known to the medical team and the school leadership from September, so that a P.A.I. (Projet d’accueil individualisé – individual care plan) can be put in place.

This P.A.I. must be completed and signed by the child’s doctor and accompanied by the medical prescriptions. Only the medical team is authorised to give medication to pupils, and only with a medical prescription.

Parents must hand the medication in person to the clinic and will collect any remaining medication at the end of the year.

Vaccinations

The DHA authorises the medical team to vaccinate pupils with parental consent. Parents are informed whenever a vaccination campaign takes place, and are given a form allowing them to accept or decline the vaccination.

Head lice

Parents of children with lice or nits must inform the teacher. As a preventive measure, all pupils in the class will be informed.

Pupils with lice or nits must be treated as soon as symptoms appear and until they have cleared.
